Thoughts on Shaving

In this current era it is most common for gentlemen to use the canned foam and disposable blade razor. Many people raised during this time in history have never had the pleasure of shaving using shaving soap and badger hair brush. If you have never done this it is an interesting feeling and I think much more enjoyable than sticking some foam on your face. Additionally over time you will noticed that it becomes easier to shave. Compared to canned foam I can go two or three times as long before a blade must be replaced and the shave is much cleaner.
I will admit that initially that cost is higher as the brush can run from $6 to $10 and the soap is another $3-4. However the brush will last for a very long time properly taken care of and the soap lasts a long time as well. Additionally I would say this method is much more friendly to our world as there are fewer things to through and fewer razors are used.
Should you endeavor to take on this wonderful experience here are some pieces of advice I can offer.
- Shower first, this softens your facial hair and makes shaving easier. I would do this even if you are using regular shaving methods, although electric razors may suffer from doing this.
- If the soap you are using is in a container already just place a small amount of water on it's surface. If not you will need to place it in a container and do the same.
- Briskly brush surface of wet soap with badger brush. It generally takes me about ten to twenty seconds to build up enough lather.
- Apply lather to face. The brush will hold a lot of lather and generally I can do my entire face in one or two goes.
- Shave as normal.
When done wash out your brush and remove any excess water from your soap.
